Our hotels in Barcelona
A city with an international profile
Barcelona is widely recognised as a global city, because of its importance in culture, finance and trade and as a centre of tourism, among other reasons. It has one of the largest and most important ports in the Mediterranean and is also a key point for communications between France and Spain thanks to motorway links and high-speed trains. Over 35 million passengers used Barcelona airport in 2012, showing its importance not only in Europe but also on a world scale.
Ideal location
Barcelona stands on the Mediterranean coast, on a small coastal plain bounded to the east by the sea, to the west by the Serra de Collserola range, to the north by the River Besós and to the south by the River Llobregat. It is also known as the Ciudad Condal, as it was formerly the capital of the County of Barcelona.
A cosmopolitan city that hosts world-class events.
During its history, various world famous events have taken place in Barcelona that have contributed to the development of the city's current layout and increased its international standing. The most notable were the Universal Exhibition of 1888, the 1929 International Exhibition, the 1992 Olympic Games and the Universal Forum of Cultures held in 2004. Barcelona is also the seat of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Visited by travellers of all ages and cultures
During the year, large numbers of travellers come to Barcelona by land, sea and air to spend a few days enjoying the city's cultural and leisure attractions. As a result, over the years many hotels have opened in the centre of Barcelona, offering warm, comfortable and exclusive accommodation so that travellers can experience the city in comfort. The Silken hotels are a clear example, with centrally located hotels that are used by thousands of visitors each year: Silken Ramblas and Silken St. Gervasi (the latter is located in a quieter area a little further from the centre).
Barcelona, city of finance
Another important aspect of the city's life, also related to hotels, is finance. Every day, work and business meetings are held all over the city, dealing with a vast range of business issues. The hotels in the centre are normally the most popular venues for this activity, as they have meeting rooms in locations close to many of the city's main places of interest. Hotel Ramblas is a clear example: although its guests include families with children and couples of all ages, a large proportion of its clientele is from the business world.
Cultural facilities
Barcelona has an impressive range of cultural facilities for all visitors, including world famous venues like the Picasso Museum and the Joan Miró Foundation. However, it is in the city's streets, with their characteristic charm and legendary past, that one particularly appreciates its artistic atmosphere. Walking along them a visitor can come across one of Barcelona's icons at any moment, Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, for example, or Parc Güell.
